Plan Outlines a Strategic Direction for Reaching County Executive Mike Hein’s Goal of Making Ulster County “The Healthiest County in New York State”
Stone Ridge, NY - - Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Ulster County Public Health Director, Dr. La Mar Hasbrouck were joined by Dr. Debra Karnasiewicz, Special Advisor to the County Executive for Healthy Ulster and members of the Partners in Public Health (PiPH) Planning Councils, to unveil the “Healthy Ulster: A Public Health Approach” initiative. Dr. Hasbrouck outlined a strategic direction for the health initiatives and actions necessary to achieve County Executive Hein’s goal of making Ulster “the healthiest county in New York State”.
“I began this process by setting an ambitious goal of making Ulster County the healthiest county in New York State and now we have a clear path forward,” said County Executive Hein. I thank Dr. Hasbrouck for his leadership, as well as the numerous individuals and organizations who participated in this process. I would also like to acknowledge Dr. Karnasiewicz’s efforts throughout this entire process. I invite every Ulster County resident to take a personal stake in making our community ahealthier place to live, work and raise a family,” said County Executive Hein.
“We heard and listened to leaders from throughout Ulster County about how we could leverage our assets and take the actions necessary to improve the overall health of our community. We now have a clear direction and some excellent benchmarks with which to measure our progress. I look forward to working with our strategic partners to achieve results,” said Dr. Hasbrouck.

The “Healthy Ulster: A Public Health Approach” initiative was crafted using the summary findings from the “Healthy Ulster” Summit, which was hosted by the Ulster County Department of Health earlier this year. The “Healthy Ulster” Summit had participation from over 100 public and private stakeholders.
