STATEMENT FROM COUNTY EXECUTIVE MICHAEL HEIN ON GARDINER HIGHWAY SHARED SERVICES INITIATIVE

Posted June 8, 2010

I commend the Town Council in Gardiner for unanimously passing a resolution last night granting Town Supervisor Joe Katz the authorization to negotiate an intermunicipal shared services agreement for highway maintenance with Ulster County. I am very encouraged by the passage of this resolution so soon after the Town of Saugerties passed a similar resolution last week.

It is vitally important that in todays new fiscal paradigm we find ways to make government more efficient and effective. With this action, the Town of Gardiner has rejected the status quo and is at the forefront of coordinating with the County to better serve our taxpayers. I look forward to working with the Town of Gardiner as well as all of Ulster Countys other towns to come to an agreement that will save taxpayer dollars and provide quality service.
