KINGSTON, NY – On August 15, 2024, Carlos Fernando Pinola Pop, age 41, of Kingston, pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Class D violent felony sex offense, before the Honorable James Farrell. Pinola Pop faces up to 7 years prison as well as registration as a Sex Offender for this conviction. Furthermore, as an undocumented person, Pinola Pop additionally faces potential deportation by the federal government when he completes his prison term. Sentencing is scheduled for October 10, 2024, before the Honorable James Farrell.
On September 25, 2023, the defendant subjected a seven-year-old child to sexual contact with his hands and penis on her vagina. The child victim told her mother, who informed a third-party community member. The third-party contacted the police and the defendant was arrested by the Kingston Police Department on October 13, 2023. The defendant admitted this sexual contact to the Kingston Police. “The message of this case is clear: a child should never be the target of sexual act for anyone,” said Special Victims Bureau Chief Jenna Hastings.
The case is being prosecuted by Bureau Chief Hastings. The defendant was represented by John Evans of the Ulster County Public Defender’s Office.
