KINGSTON, NY - Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger has again committed $7,200 of her annual salary to the SUNY Ulster President's Challenge Scholarship (PCS) program, which will cover tuition costs for a first-generation college-bound student for two years. The County Executive supported the scholarship program at the same level soon after taking office earlier this year, and recently had the opportunity to meet the Ellenville student she sponsored at a SUNY Ulster gathering for PCS participants.

The President’s Challenge Scholarship Program, administered by the SUNY Ulster Foundation, identifies eighth-grade students who would be the first in their families to attend college and provides them with mentorship and college-readiness support throughout high school. Upon graduation, these students are then granted the opportunity to attend SUNY Ulster tuition-free for two years. The scholarship program aligns with Metzger's vision to promote equitable opportunities for Ulster County youth to follow their dreams and realize their full potential.

"I believe strongly in the power of education to expand opportunities and change lives, and everyone should have the chance to continue with their education after high school if they so choose,” said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger. “The SUNY Ulster President’s Challenge Scholarship program provides a pathway for students who aspire to be the first in their families to attend college and would not otherwise have the means to attend, and I am thrilled to be able to personally support this program.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring a student for the program can contact Executive Director Lorraine Salmon at 845-687-5093 or SalmonL[at]sunyulster[dot]edu.
